A knee-length lace dress in two layers

This knee-length lace dress by Stylove is built from two layers: a smooth under-dress and a full layer of lace over it. The sleeves and the top of the chest are lace only, so a little skin shows there and nowhere else.

The cut is a loose trapeze that you pull over your head. It comes in dusty pink, white, red and black, in sizes S to XXL. The maker gives a total length of 93 to 95 cm.

Stylove is a Polish label, and the supplier states that this dress was designed and sewn in Poland. Each colour has its own model number, from 201106 to 201109, with the same size table.

The supplier describes a trapeze double-layer dress with smooth fabric underneath and delicate lace outside, elbow-length sleeves finished with a frill, and a discreet clasp at the back. In the photos the sleeves end a little below the elbow and open into a bell.

An older title called this a floor-length evening gown. It is knee length. And the colour the supplier lists as beige is white in the photos, which is what our button says.

Who it's for

For you if you want lace without a tight fit. A trapeze cut skims the body and leaves the waist alone, so you can eat, sit and dance in it.

It suits you if you like your arms covered. The sleeves are 51 cm long in every size. Sizes run to XXL, with a chest of 108 cm.

Fabric and feel: lace over a smooth layer

Here the maker is precise. The lace layer is 90% nylon and 10% spandex. The layer underneath is 95% polyester and 5% elastane. Both have some stretch, which helps with a dress that goes on over the head.

The under-layer is what you feel on your skin, and the supplier calls it smooth. The lace has a clear flower pattern and a wavy edge. Where it hangs free, at the hem and the sleeves, you can see through it.

Fit and silhouette: a loose trapeze

The dress widens from the shoulder to the hem and has no waist. The table below comes from the maker. The chest is 90 cm in S, 95 cm in M, 98 cm in L, 103 cm in XL and 108 cm in XXL. Total length is 93 cm in S and M, 94 cm in L and 95 cm in the two largest sizes.

The supplier calls it knee-length; on the model the hem sits a little above the knee. The table does not say whether these are garment or body measurements. With a loose cut the chest is the number to check, so compare it with a dress that fits you across the bust.

Styling: one colour accent

In the photos the pink, the white and the black are worn with purple pointed pumps, and the red with black ones. A single strong shoe is enough. The lace is busy, so keep the bag and jewellery plain.

Wear your hair up to show the lace over the shoulders. In winter, opaque tights in black work with the black and the red. The white one is lovely for a spring celebration with nude shoes.

Occasions

The supplier suggests special occasions. We would name a few: a christening, a communion, a wedding as a guest (in pink, red or black), an anniversary dinner, Christmas Day.

One general habit for lace: keep it away from rings, bracelets and open zips in the wash, because the threads catch easily.

The wow detail: the sleeves

The sleeves start narrow at the shoulder and open into a wide bell with a scalloped edge. They are lace only, with nothing underneath, so they move with every gesture and let the light through. Raise your hand for a toast and the sleeve falls back from your wrist. On a dress with such a simple body, that is where the drama is.
