This lace dress with long sleeves by Numoco is cut close to the body and ends just above the knee. The lace is a stretch lace sewn on a lining, so the body is covered, while the sleeves are left unlined and show skin through the pattern.

The neckline and the hem both follow the scalloped edge of the lace. Length runs from 91 cm in S to 102 cm in XXL.

Numoco makes this dress in Poland and has released it in one colour after another, each with its own model number. The earliest in our listing is 107929 and the newest is 204443. Descriptions and photos show the same dress every time: fitted lace, a V-shaped scalloped neckline, long sleeves.

Six colours are active at the supplier today: ecru, green, black, dark burgundy, navy blue and red. The older ones, among them pastel pink, cornflower blue and dark plum, are no longer made. They still appear in the photos. If you cannot select a colour, it is gone.

Who it's for

For you if you want a dress for a formal event that covers the arms and stops at the knee. The supplier says the stretch lace follows the figure. It is a pencil shape, so it shows the line of waist and hips.

The range goes up to XXL, with a chest of 108 cm and hips of 114 cm in that size.

Fabric and feel: stretch lace on a lining

The composition is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. The supplier calls it stretch lace and says the lining adds comfort and stops the fabric from being see-through.

In the photos the lace has a dense floral pattern with a raised outline. On the body you see it against the lining in the same colour. On the sleeves and along the last few centimetres of the hem there is nothing behind it, and that is where the pattern shows most clearly.

Fit and silhouette: a pencil shape, so measure

With a fitted dress the hips matter as much as the chest. Size M measures 88 cm at the chest, 76 cm at the waist and 90 cm at the hips; size L measures 96, 84 and 100 cm. The steps between sizes are large, eight to ten centimetres at the hip, so check all three numbers.

Length grows with the size, from 91 cm in S to 102 cm in XXL. On the model the hem sits just above the knee.

Styling: plain shoes, one piece of jewellery

Lace is already a pattern, so the photos keep the rest plain: nude or black pointed pumps, red sandals with the red dress, a small clutch. A pendant that drops into the V is the only jewellery the dress asks for.

For a winter event add sheer tights and a tailored coat that is longer than the dress. A cropped blazer over the shoulders works for the office party.

Occasions

The supplier recommends it for formal outings and special occasions. Think of a wedding as a guest, a christening, an anniversary dinner, Christmas. Ecru is close to white, so keep that one away from weddings unless you are the bride at the registry office.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the label sewn into the dress. Lace in general catches on jewellery, bag clasps and zips. Put your rings and bracelets on after the dress, and wash it in a laundry bag if the label allows machine washing.

The wow detail: the lace finishes its own edges

There is no binding at the neck and no folded hem. The lace is cut along its own scalloped border, so the neckline, the cuffs and the hem all end in small curves. At the hem the last few centimetres hang free of the lining, and you see leg through the pattern when you walk.
