This dog figure sits on your sideboard with its mouth wide open, and the mouth is the point. It works as a tray for keys, cards, a watch and other small things. A pair of gold-tone sunglasses rests on its forehead.

The figure is about 17 x 17 x 23.5 cm and weighs about 1.6 kg, so it has some weight to it. The supplier lists the material as resin. You choose speckled black, white, teal or pink.

The shape is built from flat planes, a bit like a folded paper model. The supplier calls it a faceted finish. The dog sits upright with its ears up and wears a collar with a small round pendant. The sunglasses, the collar and the rim of the mouth are gold-tone, and the rest is one colour.

Materials and build: resin with gold-tone details

The supplier states resin and nothing more. It does not say how the gold-tone parts are finished. Gold-tone describes the colour only; there is no gold in this figure.

In the photos the black version has a fine speckle, like stone. White, teal and pink are solid colours, and the inside of the mouth has the same colour as the body.

Size and dimensions: 23.5 cm high

The supplier gives about 17 x 17 x 23.5 cm and about 1.6 kg. That is bigger than most key bowls, so measure the spot on your cabinet first.

The supplier does not give the size of the mouth opening. In the first photo a remote control lies across it next to a watch, which gives you an idea of the room inside.

Styling: one loud object is enough

The supplier photographed the figures against a terracotta-red wall on a white surface, and that shows how they work: one bold shape, a calm background. Give the dog some space on the cabinet and keep the rest simple.

White and speckled black are the quieter choices. Teal and pink are for a hallway that can use some colour.

When it earns its place

You will use it every time you come home and every time you leave. It is also a housewarming or birthday gift for someone with a dog, or for someone who keeps losing the car keys.

Care: dust it with a dry cloth

The supplier gives no care instructions. As general practice for a decorative figure, dust it with a soft dry cloth and skip scouring pads and strong cleaners. Lay your keys in the mouth instead of throwing them, so the inside keeps its finish.

The wow detail: the sunglasses

The sunglasses are pushed up on the forehead, the way you wear them when you walk indoors. It is a small joke, and it changes the whole figure: with them the dog looks like it has just come home too.
