A pencil dress with one sharp idea: the hem
This pencil dress by Awama looks plain until you get to the skirt. A panel crosses over the front and ends in a point, so the hem runs at an angle instead of straight across.
The rest is classic: short sleeves, a round neckline, a hidden zip and a slit at the back. It comes in four plain colours and the maker's size table gives a length of 99 cm in S and 102 cm in XL. On the model the hem sits around the knee.

The piece: four Awama models, one cut
Awama sells through a Polish fashion wholesaler, and each colour of this dress has its own model number, from 212230 to 212233. The supplier describes all four in the same way: a fitted pencil cut, an asymmetrical hem with a decorative detail, short sleeves and a round neckline.
The decorative detail is a small tab with a metal D-ring at the waist, right where the front panel starts. It is the only hardware on the dress.
The supplier lists the colours as brown, green, black and beige. In the photos the "brown" is a grey-brown that we call taupe, and the beige is a light sand colour. Our button "Taupe 2" is that beige.
Who it's for
For you if you want a work dress that is not boring. It has the covered shoulders and the knee length an office expects, and one detail that shows you thought about it.
It is a fitted dress, so it suits you if you like your clothes close to the body. Sizes run from S to XL, with hips of 92 cm in S and 108 cm in XL.

Fabric and feel: a polyester and viscose blend with stretch
The composition is 60% polyester, 35% viscose and 5% spandex. That is a common mix for tailored dresses: the polyester keeps the shape, the viscose softens the hand and the spandex lets a fitted cut move with you.
In the photos the fabric is matte and smooth, with enough weight to hang straight. The point of the front panel stays crisp, which a limp fabric would not manage. There is no print or pattern. An older version of this page called it a floral summer maxi dress, and that was simply wrong.
Fit and silhouette: close to the body, with a slit to walk in
A pencil dress narrows towards the knee, and this one does too. The slit at the back is there so you can take a normal step. The table below comes from the maker and applies to all four colours. Size M has a chest of 90 cm, a waist of 72 cm and hips of 96 cm.
Length barely moves: one centimetre per size, from 99 to 102 cm. The table does not say whether these are garment or body measurements. With a cut this close, the hips decide. Measure a pencil skirt or fitted dress you own across the hips, double it and compare.

Styling: from desk to dinner
In the photos the darker colours are worn with black block-heel sandals and the beige with nude pumps. Both keep the line long, which is what an angled hem asks for.
For the office, add a blazer that ends at the hip so the D-ring stays in view. A thin belt is not needed; the waist seam already does that job. In the evening, swap the blazer for a pair of bold earrings and you are done. Ankle boots work in autumn, as long as they are slim at the ankle.
Occasions
The supplier says it fits many occasions and files it under day dresses. We would be more specific. This is a dress for a job interview, a presentation, a client lunch or a graduation ceremony. It also works for a funeral or a formal family event in black.
It is not a beach or holiday dress. The cut is too tailored for that.
Care: follow the label
The maker's data we receive has no care instructions, so please go by the label sewn into the dress. We would rather tell you that than guess.
One general habit for tailored dresses: hang them on a shaped hanger straight after wearing, with the zip closed, so the shoulders and the front panel keep their line.
The wow detail: a hem that points
Most pencil dresses end in a straight line. This one has a front panel that starts at the D-ring on the waist, runs diagonally across the skirt and drops a few centimetres below the hem in a clean point. When you walk, the panel opens a little and closes again. It gives a strict shape some movement, and it is the first thing people see.
