A floral mini dress with puff sleeves, in three prints

This floral mini dress by Moe keeps the shape simple and lets the print talk. The cut is straight and short, the neckline is round, and the short sleeves puff up at the shoulder.

You choose between three prints: roses on black, white and blue flowers on raspberry red, or big coral hibiscus on pale pink. The dress has no lining, which the maker points out makes it light for warm days. Length runs from 90 cm in S to 94.5 cm in XL.

The piece: three Moe models, one cut

Moe is a Polish label, and the supplier states that this dress was designed and sewn in Poland. Each print has its own model number (209224, 209225 and 209226), but the cut, the fabric and the size table are the same for all three.

The supplier calls every print "multicolor", which does not help you much. So here is what the photos show. The first is a black ground with red and pink roses. The second is a raspberry red with small white and blue flowers. The third is the softest: large coral hibiscus on pale pink.

Who it's for

For you if you like a short dress that still feels dressed. The shoulders are covered, the neckline is high and the sleeves give the top some shape, so the only bare part is the leg.

It suits you if you want one dress that needs no thinking: zip it up, add shoes, go. Sizes run from S to XL, with a chest of 90 cm in S and 105 cm in XL.

Fabric and feel: polyester with 5% spandex, unlined

The composition is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. An older version of this page called it a cotton dress. That was wrong, and we have corrected it: there is no cotton in the maker's composition.

In the photos the fabric looks smooth and has some body. It holds the puff of the sleeve and the straight line of the skirt without clinging. The spandex gives a little stretch. There is no lining, so there is one layer between you and the air, which is what you want in summer.

Fit and silhouette: straight and short

The maker says subtle seams emphasise the waist. In the photos the dress follows the body lightly and falls straight from the hip. The table below comes from the maker and is the same for all three prints. Size M has a chest of 95 cm, a waist of 80 cm and hips of 101 cm.

One oddity: the table gives a waist of 85 cm for both L and XL, while chest and hips do grow. If your waist is the widest point, keep that in mind. The table does not say whether these are garment or body measurements, so compare with a dress you own.

Styling: pick the shoe to match the print

In the photos the two darker prints are worn with white pointed slingbacks and the hibiscus print with nude strappy sandals. Both ideas work because they keep the leg line long under a short hem.

For daytime, white sneakers and a jean jacket take the roses on black to the terrace. The raspberry red is the loudest of the three, so let it be: bare legs and a small bag. The hibiscus print is the one for a summer wedding, with heeled sandals and gold-tone earrings.

Occasions

The supplier files it under day dresses and we agree. Wear it to a birthday lunch, on a city trip, to a garden party or on holiday for dinner. With a blazer the black print can go to a summer office day, if your office is relaxed about hemlines.

It is a warm-weather dress. Without a lining and with short sleeves it wants sun, or at least a jacket.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data we receive has no care instructions, so please go by the label sewn into the dress. We would rather tell you that than guess.

One general habit for printed dresses: wash them inside out and close the zip first, so the teeth don't catch on anything.

The wow detail: the shoulder

The sleeves are short, but they are not flat. Small pleats at the top of the shoulder lift the fabric, so the sleeve stands up a little before it drops to the arm. On a dress this simple that is the detail people notice. It squares the shoulders and makes a round neckline look sharper than it has any right to.
