Numoco calls this dress Ivana. It is a dark green A-line dress with long sleeves, made of a stretch knit, and it is cut to be comfortable first. The top follows the body and the skirt widens from the waist down.

The maker's size table gives a length of 92 cm in S and 96 cm in XL. On the model that puts the hem just above the knee. It comes in one colour and in sizes S to XL.

Numoco is a Polish label, and the supplier states that this dress was produced in Poland. The wholesaler files it under day dresses and describes it as a comfortable trapezoidal dress with a simple cut, a neckline and long sleeves. A trapezoidal cut is what most of us call an A-line: narrow at the top, wider at the hem.

The supplier calls the colour green. In the photos it is a deep bottle green, the shade that looks almost black in low light and clearly green in daylight. Screens differ, so allow for a small shift.

The neckline is the one decorative choice. It is wide and rounded with squared corners, and it leaves the collarbones free.

Who it's for

For you if you want a dress with sleeves that doesn't cling at the stomach or the hips. The skirt stands away from the body, so you can sit and cycle in it and eat a full dinner without thinking about it.

It is also a good pick if you like dark colours and are a little tired of black. Sizes run from S to XL, with a chest of 80 cm in S and 100 cm in XL.

Fabric and feel: a knit with 10% spandex

The composition is 90% polyester and 10% spandex. Ten percent is a generous share of stretch, and the supplier says the knit follows the silhouette while leaving you free to move.

In the photos the fabric looks matte and fairly dense. It holds the flare of the skirt instead of collapsing against the legs, and the surface shows no shine. The maker doesn't give a fabric weight, so we can't tell you how warm it is. Plan on tights in winter.

Fit and silhouette: close on top, wide below

The table below comes from the maker. Look at size S: the chest is 80 cm and the waist is 82 cm. A waist that measures more than the chest tells you the dress isn't nipped in. It skims past the middle and opens out.

Size M has a chest of 86 cm and a waist of 90 cm; XL has 100 and 102 cm. Length grows slowly, from 92 cm in S to 96 cm in XL. Choose by your chest measurement, because that is where the dress sits closest. The table doesn't say whether these are garment or body measurements, so compare them with a dress you already own.

Styling: gold next to green

The model wears nude heels and gold-tone jewellery: a short necklace and a few bracelets. Gold tones against dark green is an old combination and it still works.

For the office, try black opaque tights, ankle boots and a long cardigan. For a December dinner, switch to sheer tights and heels and add earrings that catch the light. The open neckline has room for a pendant, or wear a thin roll-neck underneath on a cold day.

A belt changes the shape. Worn at the waist it turns the A-line into a fit-and-flare, if you want more definition.

Occasions

The supplier sells it as a day dress, and that is how we see it too. It works for the office, a lunch or a birthday visit, and the dark green makes it an easy choice for the weeks around Christmas.
