Moe made this ribbed cotton mini dress with a wide neckline that falls over one shoulder. The top is loose and gathered at the side, the skirt is narrow, and the sleeves are long. It looks relaxed above the waist and fitted below it.

It was designed and sewn in Poland. There are three double sizes, with a length of 90 to 94 cm, and four colours: grey, red, black and brown.

Moe is a Polish label, and the supplier states that the dress was designed and sewn in Poland. The wholesaler files it under day dresses and describes a ribbed cotton knit mini dress with a fitted cut, long sleeves and a neckline that falls over one shoulder.

To be precise about the name: this is not a dress with one strap. It has two long sleeves. The neckline is cut wide, so it sits on one shoulder and drops off the other.

Our old title called it soft blue and midi. Neither is true. The dress is short, and the colours are a grey melange, a deep red, black and a dark chocolate brown.

Who it's for

For you if you like a knit dress for the colder months and want it to show a little skin. One bare shoulder does that, while arms and chest stay covered.

The loose top is kind to the upper body and the fitted skirt shows hips and legs. The range goes up to 2XL/3XL. You will want a strapless bra or one with a clear strap.

Fabric and feel: two compositions, check your colour

The composition depends on the colour. The red, the black and the brown are 95% cotton with 5% spandex. The grey is 55% cotton, 40% polyester and 5% spandex. That is common with melange yarns, where a second fibre is mixed in for the flecked look.

The supplier calls the fabric a ribbed cotton knit. In the photos the rib is fine and the fabric has enough weight to drape over the waist without clinging. The maker gives no fabric weight.

Fit and silhouette: loose above, fitted below

The size table needs a little reading. The chest is listed as 140 cm in S/M, 144 cm in L/XL and 148 cm in 2XL/3XL. That is the wide top with its sleeves, so it tells you the top is roomy in every size.

The numbers that decide your size are the waist and the hips: 64 and 76 cm in S/M, 72 and 84 cm in L/XL, 80 and 92 cm in 2XL/3XL. These are small figures for a rib knit that stretches, so we read them as the dress unstretched. Length is 90, 92 and 94 cm. On the model the skirt ends at mid-thigh, because the loose top takes up part of that length.

Styling: tall boots

Every photo shows the dress with knee-high boots with a heel, and it is hard to improve on that. A short hem and a tall boot leave a narrow band of leg, which looks deliberate in winter.

Add opaque tights when it gets cold. Wear your hair to the covered side or up, so the bare shoulder stays visible, and choose earrings over a necklace. A long coat on top finishes it.

Occasions

The supplier names special occasions and everyday wear. We see it at a dinner, on a date, at drinks before Christmas or on a city trip in autumn. The grey is the daytime one. The red and the black are for the evening.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so follow the label sewn into the dress.

For ribbed cotton knits in general: wash inside out, and dry the dress flat so the wide neckline doesn't stretch on a hanger.

The wow detail: the gathering at the side

At one side of the waist the fabric is pulled together. From that point the top falls in soft diagonal folds towards the opposite shoulder, the bare one. So the two details work as a pair: the gathering sends the folds up, and the neckline lets them slide off. It is clever cutting in a dress that looks simple.
