This short cotton dress from Moe is neat and a little sharp. It has a round neck, a seam at the waist and long sleeves with a pleat at the shoulder that gives the sleeve head a squared, lifted look. The skirt is short and ends at mid-thigh on the model.

The fabric is 76% cotton with polyester and a little spandex, and the dress is unlined. It comes in fuchsia pink, blue and dark grey, in sizes S to XL. Moe says it was designed and sewn in Poland.

Fabric and feel: mostly cotton, with some structure

The composition is 76% cotton, 21% polyester and 3% spandex. In the photos the fabric has body. It holds the pleat at the shoulder and the shape of the skirt without help from a lining, so expect a woven fabric with some firmness and a little give from the spandex.

The maker calls the dress light and airy because it is unlined. With a cotton-rich fabric against your skin that is believable, though a structured weave like this will never feel like a T-shirt. Without a lining, wear a slip if you plan to combine it with tights that grip.

Fit and silhouette: fitted waist, short skirt

The dress is fitted through the bodice and waist, and the skirt has a little room at the hips from the pleats. The maker's table gives size M a chest of 91 cm, a waist of 77 cm and hips of 95 cm, with a length of 86 cm. Each size up adds 5 cm in width and 2 cm in length.

With only 3% spandex there is not much stretch, so the waist measurement matters. The table does not say whether these are garment or body measurements. Lay a fitted woven dress you own flat, measure the waist, double it and compare. If you are tall, note that 84 cm in size S is a real mini.

Styling: sneakers now, boots later

In the photos the dress is worn with flat retro sneakers and bare legs. That takes the formality out of the sharp shoulder and makes it a daytime dress.

With opaque tights and knee-high boots it becomes an autumn outfit, and the blue and the grey look good with black. The fuchsia is the party one. Add heels and gold-tone earrings and you are done. Skip a necklace, since the neckline sits high.

Occasions

The maker made it for everyday and casual occasions. In blue or grey it works for the office, a lunch or a day of meetings where you want to look put together without a blazer. In pink it suits a birthday, a dinner or drinks.

It is short, so for a conservative workplace you may want tights and flat shoes with it.
