A floral chiffon maxi dress with a high slit

This floral chiffon maxi dress by Moe is long, sleeveless and cut with a deep V at the front. A high slit opens over one leg when you walk, and the skirt flares towards the hem.

The maker gives a length of 144 cm in size S and 150 cm in XXL. The fabric is 100% polyester chiffon, fully lined, and the supplier says the dress was designed and sewn in Poland. You can choose from three flower prints.

Moe lists the dress as three models, 193591, 193592 and 193593, and calls all three multicolor. That does not help you choose, so here is what the photos show. The first is an orchid pink with purple flowers; our button calls it Purple. The second is white with large pink roses and the third is black with the same roses. Those two are multicolor 2 and multicolor 3 on the buttons.

The cut is the same in every print. This page used to call it a midi dress. With a length of 144 cm and more, it is a maxi, and the supplier says so too.

Who it's for

For you if you want a long dress that still shows some leg. The slit is high. In the photos it opens to the upper thigh when the model steps forward, so this is a dress for someone who is comfortable with that.

It also helps if you are tall or like a heel. At 144 to 150 cm the hem reaches the ankle on the model, who wears heeled sandals.

Fabric and feel: lined polyester chiffon

The dress is 100% polyester. The outer layer is chiffon, a thin fabric that you can partly see through, and the maker adds a full lining underneath. According to the description the lining is what makes the chiffon fall in soft folds over the body.

Near the hem the photos show the two layers apart: the printed chiffon is a little longer than the lining and lets light through.

Fit and silhouette: fitted top, elastic waist, long skirt

The top is fitted and the waist is marked by the sewn-in belt. The maker says the elastic at the back lets the dress adapt to different bodies. Size S has a chest of 90 cm and a waist of 64 cm; XXL has 110 and 80 cm.

Length goes up by a centimetre and a half per size, from 144 cm to 150 cm. If you are shorter, plan for heels or a trip to the tailor, because a lined chiffon hem is not something you fold up with tape.

Source: the maker's size table, the same for all three prints. The waist has elastic at the back, so the waist number is the unstretched measurement as far as we can tell; the table does not say.

Styling: match the shoes to the flowers

The photos do something simple that works. The pink dress is worn with magenta sandals, the white one with nude sandals and the black one with black. Follow that and you are done.

For an evening outside, a cropped cardigan or a short jacket ends at the belt and leaves the skirt free. Skip long necklaces. The V is deep and looks cleaner with small earrings.

Occasions

The supplier files it under day dresses, and the white and pink prints fit a summer wedding as a guest, a garden party or a dinner on holiday. The black print reads more like an evening dress and can carry a party in the colder months with a jacket.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the label sewn into the dress. Hang it up as soon as it arrives. Chiffon creases in a parcel and most of that drops out on a hanger overnight.

The wow detail: the slit you only see in motion

Look at the back views. From behind, and when the model stands still, it is a calm long dress with a gathered waist. Then she takes a step and the skirt parts over the leg. Because the skirt is cut wide, the slit closes again as soon as she stops.
