A crepe wrap mini dress with wide batwing sleeves

This wrap mini dress by Moe is all about movement. The sleeves are cut wide like a cape, the front crosses over into a deep V, and the skirt falls in a soft cascade down one side.

It is made of crepe, 95% polyester and 5% spandex, with no lining. The waist is partly elastic and ties with a band and a small buckle. It comes in bright green, lilac, black and a soft sage green, in sizes S to XL.

Its description is generous with praise, so here are the facts in it: a mini dress in crepe with a flared cut, bat sleeves, an envelope shape with a covered tie inside and a decorative tie with a buckle outside, a partly elastic waist and no lining.

On colour: an older title called this a soft blue midi dress. There is no blue and it is not a midi. The fifth colour, our button "green 2", is a muted sage green that can look blue-grey on some screens. "violet" is a pale lilac. The brown is out of stock at the supplier.

Who it's for

For you if you want your upper arms covered without feeling wrapped up. The sleeves are loose and open, so air gets in.

It suits you if you like a wrap dress for the way it sets the waist. Here the elastic and the tie do that together. The skirt is short, so check the length in the table: 88 cm in S, 95.5 cm in XL.

Fabric and feel: unlined crepe

The composition is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. The supplier describes the crepe as a fabric with a delicate texture. Crepe has a fine, grainy surface and a matte look, and it drapes easily, which is what the wide sleeves and the cascade need.

There is no lining. The supplier presents that as a plus, because the dress feels light. It also means one layer of fabric, so in the lilac and the sage green you may want skin-tone underwear.

Fit and silhouette: loose top, set waist, short skirt

The top is roomy because of the sleeves, so the bust is not the measurement to worry about. The table below comes from the maker and gives two numbers: length and waist width. Size M is 90.5 cm long with a waist of 72 cm. Each size adds 2.5 cm in length and 4 cm at the waist.

The waist is partly elastic, so it gives a little beyond those figures, and the tie lets you pull it closer. The table does not say whether these are garment or body measurements. On the model the hem sits at mid-thigh at its shortest point.

Styling: let the colour decide

In the photos the green and the sage are worn with nude strappy sandals, the lilac with yellow ones and the black with black. The lilac and yellow pairing is the bold one, and it works.

With sleeves this wide, skip the jacket and take a wrap or a cape if it gets cool. Keep necklaces short or leave them out; the V-neck is deep enough to be its own feature. Flat sandals make it a holiday dress in a second.

Occasions

The supplier names summer gatherings and more formal occasions. We would say: a garden party, a summer wedding as a guest (not in black, perhaps), dinner on holiday, a birthday. The black one stretches into the evening and into autumn with tights.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data we receive has no care instructions, so please go by the label sewn into the dress. We would rather tell you that than guess.

One general habit for wrap dresses: tie the bands loosely before washing so they don't knot around other clothes.

The wow detail: the sleeves

The sleeves are cut in one piece with the bodice and fall open from shoulder to elbow. Lift an arm and you get a wide, flat wing of fabric. Lower it and the sleeve folds into soft pleats. On a short dress it shifts the balance upward and gives the whole outfit a relaxed, kimono-like line.
