This midi dress by Stylove looks like a short-sleeved blazer that grew into a dress. The top crosses over under a collar, the sleeves are short kimono sleeves and a belt in the same fabric ties at the waist.

It is unlined, has a slit at the back and measures 120 to 126 cm in length. The maker says it was designed and sewn in Poland. There are five colours and five sizes, S to XXL.

Stylove sells this dress through a fashion wholesaler in Poland with one model number per colour. The maker's colour names are plain: blue, violet, pink, orange and black. Our buttons use "Teal", "Fuchsia" and "Peach" for the first three. In the photos they are a dusty blue-green, a raspberry and a muted terracotta pink. The orange is a coral.

The maker's description is unusually complete. It names the envelope top with a collar, the kimono sleeves, the tie belt, an elastic band at the back of the waist, the midi length, the missing lining and the slit at the back.

Who it's for

For you if you want one dress that reads as office wear on Tuesday and as a wedding guest outfit on Saturday. The collar does the first job and the colour does the second.

The size range is wide, from a chest of 88 cm in S to 108 cm in XXL. Because the waist has elastic at the back and a belt at the front, it adapts to you more than a dress with a fixed waist seam would.

Fabric and feel: light and unlined

The composition is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. The maker says the dress has no lining so the fabric can lie lightly on the body and stay airy.

In the photos the cloth is matte with a fine texture, and it holds the shape of the collar without looking stiff. With an unlined dress in a light colour, underwear in a skin tone is the safe choice.

Fit and silhouette: straight skirt, adjustable waist

The skirt is straight, so the hip measurement matters most. It runs from 94 cm in S to 114 cm in XXL, in steps of 5 cm. The chest follows the same steps from 88 to 108 cm.

The waist in the table, 64 to 80 cm, is the elastic at rest. It stretches, and you set the rest with the belt. Each size is also a little longer than the one before, from 120 cm to 126 cm. The slit at the back keeps a straight skirt of that length easy to walk in.

Styling: treat it like a suit

The photos show pointed pumps with the lighter colours and strappy black sandals with the raspberry and the black. Both work because the dress has a collar and a waist, like a jacket.

Tie the belt in a knot at the side and let the ends hang, as the model does, or swap it for a narrow belt of your own. Gold-tone earrings are enough. A necklace would compete with the lapels.

Occasions

The maker suggests formal meetings and more casual occasions. We agree. In black or blue-green it is a work dress. In coral or raspberry it goes to a summer wedding, a graduation or a garden party.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the label sewn into the dress. We would rather tell you that than guess.

One practical habit: take the belt off and wash it with the dress, so both keep the same shade.
