The maker mentions no zip and no lining. With a stretchy knit and a round neck you most likely pull it over your head, but that is our reading and no stated fact.

Fabric and feel: cotton jersey

The composition is 98% cotton and 2% Lycra. The maker calls the knit soft and pleasant. In the photos it looks like a smooth, matte jersey, the kind a good T-shirt is made of, with a bit more weight so it doesn't cling to every line.

The Lycra is a small share. It helps the dress keep its shape at the hips and bounce back after sitting. Cotton jersey creases less than a woven cotton, so the dress is easy on a travel day.

Fit and silhouette: close, with folds that forgive

This is a fitted dress. The maker's table gives size M a chest of 88 cm, a waist of 74 cm and hips of 92 cm, with a length of 91 cm. Each size up adds 4 cm in width and 1 cm in length.

The table does not say whether these are garment or body measurements. With a cotton knit that has only 2% stretch fibre, we would not size down. Lay a fitted jersey dress you own flat, measure the hips, double the number and compare. The ruching uses up extra fabric at the sides, so the dress can ride up a little as you walk. Pull it down at the side seams and the folds fall back into place.

A jeans jacket or an oversized shirt worn open takes the edge off the fitted shape. In black with a blazer it can go to the office. The blue and the pink are the holiday colours.

Occasions

The wholesaler files it under day dresses. It is a dress for warm days: a city trip, a lunch outside, a birthday, drinks on a terrace.

It is short and close-fitting, so for cycling you may want shorts underneath. For a formal event it is too casual. That is fine. It was never meant to be a gala dress.

The maker's data has no care instructions, so follow the label sewn into the dress.

Cotton knits can shrink a little in a hot wash or a hot dryer, and a dress with only 90 cm of length has none to spare. Wash the bright colours with similar colours the first few times.
