This A-line mini dress by Awama is about as simple as a dress gets. It has a round neckline, short cap sleeves and a body that widens from the chest to the hem. No print, no belt, no trim.

The supplier calls the cut loose and trapezoidal. The fabric is 95% polyester with 5% spandex, the dress was designed and sewn in Poland, and it comes in green, black and beige in sizes S to XL.

Awama is a Polish label. Three model numbers sit behind this page: 178670 is green, 178671 is black and 178672 is beige. The supplier's text is the same for all three: an elegant mini dress with short sleeves and a loose, trapezoidal cut, simple enough for a family celebration and for the office.

The photos confirm it. The green is a bright grass green, the beige is light and warm. In each colour the fabric is smooth and matte, and the back is as plain as the front.

Who it's for

For you if you do not like fabric against your waist and hips. This shape touches the shoulders and the chest and then hangs free. In size M the hips measure 104 cm against a chest of 92 cm, so there is real room below.

It is a short dress, 88 cm in M, and on the model it ends at mid-thigh. If you are tall, think of it as a mini. If you are petite, it will sit nearer the knee.

Fabric and feel: smooth, with a little stretch

The composition is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. In the photos the fabric has enough body to hold the A-shape away from the hips, and it does not cling. The surface is matte, which keeps the green from looking loud.

The supplier gives no fabric weight and no word on a lining, so we can't say how thick it is. With the beige, plan for skin-tone underwear until you have seen the fabric yourself.

Fit and silhouette: choose by the chest

The table below is the maker's and is the same for all three colours. Each size adds 4 cm in width and 1 cm in length. Size S has a chest of 88 cm, a waist of 90 cm and hips of 100 cm. Size XL has 100, 102 and 112 cm, and is 90 cm long.

Because the dress hangs from the shoulders, only the chest and shoulders have to fit. If that measurement suits you, the rest will. Between two sizes, take the smaller one unless you are full in the bust.

Styling: a blank page

The photos keep it minimal: bare legs and heeled sandals. A plain dress like this takes almost anything you add. A long necklace gives the front a vertical line. A blazer makes it office wear, and the hem of the dress should show a hand's width below the jacket.

In colder months, wear the black one with opaque tights and ankle boots, or over a thin roll neck. The green looks sharp with white trainers and a jeans jacket.

The supplier names family celebrations and office work, and the simplicity is what makes both possible. Think of a christening, a birthday lunch, a graduation, or a normal Tuesday with a meeting.
