These ankle boots with chain strap mix two ideas. The lower half is a plain biker boot: round toe, thick tread sole, a strap with a metal ring and a chain around the heel. The shaft above it is perforated in a diamond pattern, which makes the boot look lighter.

The upper is faux leather, the sole is rubber and the heel is a flat 4 cm. A zip on the inner side closes them. Three colours can be ordered.

We buy this pair from a fashion wholesaler in Poland. Its brand field says Solea, and its descriptions call the boots "by Procopio". We give you both names as we received them.

The three descriptions, one per colour, do not fully agree with each other. One says the boots are made of rubber, another speaks of a lace-up design. The attribute list says faux leather, two descriptions name a rubber sole and a zip, and the photos show a zip and no laces. We follow the attribute list and the photos. We also leave out the supplier's remarks about moisture and warmth, because a boot with holes in the shaft cannot promise either.

Who it's for

For you if you like a biker boot and find most of them heavy to look at. The perforated shaft and the single chain keep this one on the lighter side.

They are flat, so they suit long days on your feet. The supplier files them under autumn and winter. With the open shaft we think they are at home in spring and on dry autumn days.

The supplier gives no shaft height and does not mention a lining.

Material and feel: faux leather on rubber

The attribute list names faux leather for the upper. In the photos it is smooth with a slightly aged finish on the tan and khaki pairs, where the colour is darker along the seams and the toe. The black pair is even and has a soft shine.

The sole is rubber according to two of the descriptions, in the same colour as the upper. The chain and the ring are metal in a silver tone.

Size and fit: go by the insole

The supplier gives the insole length per size: 23 cm for 36, 24 cm for 37, 24.5 cm for 38, 25 cm for 39, 25.5 cm for 40 and 26.5 cm for 41. Measure your foot from the heel to the longest toe and choose the size whose insole is a little longer.

The steps are uneven. From 36 to 37 and from 40 to 41 the insole grows a full centimetre; in between it grows by half. On the models the shaft ends a hand above the ankle and stands slightly away from the leg, so there is room for a sock or a slim trouser leg.

Styling: skirt or cuffed jeans

The photos show both options. With a black midi skirt the tan pair becomes the centre of the outfit. With pale jeans rolled above the shaft, the khaki pair looks relaxed and a bit military.

The supplier adds a dress to the list, and a floaty one with these boots is a good contrast. A coloured sock behind the perforations is a small trick that works well with the black pair.

Occasions

Meeting friends, a day in town, a concert, a casual office. The supplier also mentions an evening out, and with a dress that works. Because of the holes in the shaft, we would not pick these for a rainy day.

Care: a damp cloth

The supplier's data has no care instructions. As a general habit for faux leather, wipe the upper with a damp cloth and let the boots dry at room temperature. A soft brush clears dust from the perforations. Dry the chain after a wet day.

The wow detail: the chain around the heel

The chain does not sit on top of the strap, where you would expect it. It hangs below, looping from the ring around the back of the heel. You see it from the side and from behind, and it swings a little when you walk.
