This heated eye mask is a white hard-shell mask that warms the area around your eyes. It has four heat levels and a timer that runs in steps of 10 minutes and then switches off by itself.

You choose a version with Bluetooth, which plays music or calming sounds from your phone, or one without. It is rechargeable and folds in half for a bag or a drawer.

The piece: goggles for doing nothing

It looks like a pair of wide white ski goggles. On one side sits a black touch panel with symbols for power, volume, Bluetooth and heat. Inside, the photos show a dark padded lining with two round heat zones, one over each eye, and an adjustable elastic strap around the back of the head.

The model name is S10. The supplier gives no maker, so we sell it as "No brand".

Who it's for

For you if you spend your day at a screen and want a reason to close your eyes for ten minutes. Put it on, pick a heat level, play something quiet, and let the timer end the break for you.

It is a comfort gadget for a moment for yourself. It is not a treatment device, and it does not replace advice from a doctor or an optician. If you have an eye condition, ask them before using heat near your eyes.

The supplier photos also print beauty claims and mention a massage function. Those are not in the supplier's fact sheet and we have no proof for them, so we leave them out.

Materials and build: plastic shell, padded inside

The body is plastic, according to the supplier. The inside is padded where it touches your face; the supplier does not say what that padding is made of.

On the battery the sources disagree. The supplier text says 800mA, while one supplier image says 500 mA and four uses per charge. We list the text figure and tell you about the other one, so you know not to count on a long run time. No charging time is given.

Size and fit: one size with a strap

There is one size. The elastic strap adjusts at the back, and the hinge in the middle lets the two halves follow the curve of your face. The supplier gives no dimensions or weight.

Because of the hard shell, it is made for lying on your back or sitting back in a chair. It is not a soft mask to sleep on your side in.

How to use it

Start on the lowest heat level and work up; the supplier gives no temperatures, so let your own comfort decide. Take out contact lenses and remove eye make-up first. Pair your phone if you have the Bluetooth version, pick a playlist, set the timer, and lie back.

Folded, it fits in a handbag, so it can come along on a train ride or a long flight.

A lunch break at home, the end of a long screen day, a flight, a Sunday afternoon on the sofa, or as a gift for someone who never takes a break.

Care: wipe, don't wash

The supplier gives no care instructions. It is an electrical device, so keep it away from water: wipe the inside with a slightly damp cloth and let it dry before you fold it. Don't use it while it is charging.

The wow detail: the timer

The feature we like most is the least exciting one. The timer runs in 10-minute steps and switches the heat off for you. You don't have to watch the clock or worry about dozing off with it on, which is the whole point of a break.
