These hoop drop earrings start as a small, close-fitting hoop and continue as a fine chain with five clear stones. The whole earring is about 4.8 cm long, so the last stone hangs just below the earlobe line and moves when you do.

They are sold as one pair in a gold-tone finish.

These earrings come under the label Luxurious Brilliance. The supplier's material line reads: 18K gold-plated, titanium steel, zircon. We pass that on as the supplier's statement. We hold no certificate for the plating or the stones, and the supplier gives no plating thickness.

In the photos the hoop is polished and wide for its size, with a hinged clasp. Each of the five stones sits in its own round setting, linked by short lengths of chain.

Materials and build: the supplier's statement

According to the supplier the base is titanium steel, the surface is 18K gold-plated and the stones are zircon. Gold-plated means a thin layer of gold over another metal. It is not solid gold, and a plated layer can wear with time and friction.

We have no certificate on file for any of these claims, so read them as what the supplier tells us.

Size and dimensions: about 4.8 cm long

The supplier's chart gives a length of 4.8 cm, converted from 1.9 inches. Its diagram is more precise: 48.5 mm from the top of the hoop to the last stone, with stones of 4 mm.

The diagram also says "weight: 4g" without stating whether that is one earring or the pair. Either way these are light earrings.

Styling: hair up, neckline open

A drop earring shows off when there is space around it. Wear your hair up or tucked behind one ear, and choose a neckline that leaves the neck free.

They go with a white shirt as easily as with a slip dress. If you wear a necklace too, keep it fine and in the same gold tone.

Occasions

Wear them to dinner, a wedding, a birthday or the office party. They are small enough for daytime too, if your day allows a little sparkle. They also make a simple gift.

Care: no instructions from the supplier

The supplier gives no care instructions. Our own advice for plated jewellery: take the earrings off before showering, swimming and spraying perfume, and keep them dry in a pouch or box.
