A pendant necklace drawn in one line

The pendant is a single curved ribbon, like a brushstroke, that wraps around one round, clear stone. It hangs from a fine box chain of about 45 cm, with an extension for a little more length.

You can choose a gold-coloured or a silver-coloured version. What the supplier says about the metal and the stone, and what we can and cannot confirm, is set out below.

The piece: what the supplier states

The necklace is sold in our shop under the label Radiant Jewel. The supplier describes the material as 925 sterling silver, platinum-plated, 18K gold-plated, with moissanite, and gives the main stone as 1 carat. It lists both platings in one line and does not say which belongs to which colour. Our reading is that the gold colour is the gold-plated one and the silver colour the platinum-plated one.

We have no certificate, assay document or grading report for this piece. So we pass these statements on as the supplier's and do not vouch for them ourselves. If a certified stone or hallmarked metal matters to you, this is not the piece to rely on.

Who it's for

For you if you wear one fine necklace every day and want it to have a shape of its own. The supplier calls the style minimalist, and that fits: one line, one stone, nothing else.

It is also an easy gift. A necklace has no size, and the extension chain lets the wearer choose where the pendant sits.

Materials: stated, not certified

To repeat it in one place. Metal, per the supplier: 925 sterling silver with platinum plating or 18K gold plating. Stone, per the supplier: moissanite, 1 carat. Moissanite is a lab-made stone and is not a diamond. No certificate on file for either claim.

Plating is a thin layer and wears with use on any piece of jewellery. The photos show a stamp on the back of the pendant, but we cannot read it reliably from the image and do not quote it.

Size and dimensions

The supplier gives inches: a 17.7 in chain, a 2 in extension and a 1.1 in pendant. Converted and rounded, that is about 45 cm, 5.1 cm and 2.8 cm. The whole necklace weighs 3 g.

At about 45 cm the pendant sits just below the collarbones on most people. With the extension fully out it drops a few centimetres lower, which helps over a higher neckline.

Styling: alone or layered

On its own it suits a V-neck, an open shirt collar or a plain crew neck. The vertical line of the pendant lengthens the neckline a little.

For layering, put a shorter plain chain above it and leave the pendant as the lowest point. Match the colour to the jewellery you already wear, since gold and silver tones are easier to live with when they repeat.

Occasions

Everyday wear, the office, dinner, a birthday or an anniversary gift. It is small enough for daytime and has enough sparkle for the evening.

Care

The supplier gives no care instructions. The usual advice for plated jewellery applies: take it off for showering, swimming and sport, keep perfume and lotion away from it, and store it dry in a pouch or box so the chain does not tangle. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth.

The wow detail: the stone has no claws

Most single stones sit in a ring of small prongs. Here the photos show the stone held between the two ends of the ribbon, so the setting and the design are the same line. From the front you see curve, stone, curve.
