Description
Mid-calf boots with a slouchy shaft and two buckles
These mid-calf boots from Step in style are the pull-on kind: no zip, a soft shaft that settles into folds, and two straps with buckles wrapped around it. The maker calls the look slightly rock, and that is about right.
The upper is faux leather. The shaft is 27.5 cm high and the heel 4 cm. They come in brown and in black, in sizes 36 to 41.

The piece: a biker shape, softened
Step in style lists these as two models, 218735 in brown and 219263 in black. The wholesaler files them under over-the-knee boots, which they are not. The description, the measurements and the photos all agree on a shaft that reaches about halfway up the calf.
The straps are decorative. They sit around the gathered shaft, one near the top and one near the ankle, and each ends in a rectangular buckle. On the brown pair the buckles are gold-tone, on the black pair silver-tone.
Who they're for
For you if you want a boot with attitude that you can still walk in all day. The heel is low and wide, and you pull them on without fiddling with zips or laces.
A slouchy shaft is also kind to calves of different widths, because it is meant to sit loose. The maker gives no calf circumference, so we cannot put a number on that.
Closer look: maker's data and photos
- Faux leather upper (maker's data)
- Gathered shaft to mid-calf, 27.5 cm high (maker's data)
- Two decorative straps with buckles (maker's data); gold-tone on brown, silver-tone on black (photos)
- Flat heel of 4 cm (maker's data)
- Pull-on style with no zip (maker's data, photos)
- Round toe and a black sole with a ridged edge (photos)
The maker's table mentions a lining ("shoe cover") for the inside and the footbed and does not name its material. We do not know how warm it is, so we make no promise about winter use.
Materials and build: faux leather, soft enough to fold
The maker gives the upper as artificial leather. We call it faux leather: a man-made material and not animal hide.
In the photos it has a smooth surface with a soft shine, and it is supple enough to crease at the shaft the way the design needs. The sole material is not stated. It looks like a moulded black sole with a low block heel.
Size and measurements
The maker sizes these by insole length: 24.5 cm in size 36, half a centimetre more with each size, up to 27 cm in size 41. Measure your foot standing on a sheet of paper and pick the size whose insole is a little longer than your foot.
Because there is no zip, your foot has to pass the ankle bend of the boot. If you have a high instep and are between sizes, the larger one will be easier to pull on. With thick socks the same advice applies.
Size chart: insole length (cm)
| Size | Insole length |
|---|---|
| 36 | 24.5 |
| 37 | 25 |
| 38 | 25.5 |
| 39 | 26 |
| 40 | 26.5 |
| 41 | 27 |

Styling: let the shaft show
The maker suggests trousers or leggings, or a dress or skirt. I would lean to the second. The whole point of these boots is the folded shaft and the buckles, and they show up well under a short hem or over slim leggings.
Try the brown with a cream knit dress and a long coat. The black takes a floral midi and a biker jacket, or black tights and an oversized blazer. With jeans, tuck a slim leg in; a wide leg would cover everything that makes them fun.
Occasions
The maker has colder days and everyday outfits in mind. They suit the commute, a weekend market, a concert, a casual dinner. With a 4 cm heel you can stand for hours.
Faux leather copes with a shower but we have no data on water resistance, so treat them as dry-weather boots and let them dry at room temperature if they get wet.
Care
The maker's data has no care instructions. For faux leather in general a soft, slightly damp cloth is enough, and it is wise to keep the boots away from radiators. Stuff the shafts loosely with paper when you store them, so the folds stay soft and do not set into sharp creases.
The wow detail: straps that hold the slouch
A slouchy boot can look like a boot that has given up. Here the two straps catch the folds and give them a shape, like a belt on a loose dress. The buckles add a point of light on each. It is a small thing, and it is the difference between slumped and styled.
