A strapless playsuit that looks like a mini dress
This strapless playsuit by Italy Moda has a smocked top and two ruffles that fall over short legs. From the front it passes for a mini dress. Underneath it is a pair of shorts, which is the whole point.
It is 100% cotton, comes in one size and has no zip or buttons.

The piece: a playsuit, in three versions
First, a correction. This page used to call the piece a dress. The supplier files it under playsuits and describes a jumpsuit with short legs, sleeveless, with ruching at the top and a ruffle. The photos agree: when the model moves, you see the shorts.
Three models are available. 212515 is the light beige. 212517 and 212518 are both listed as pink. Going by the order of the photos, those are the coral leopard print and the pink leopard print. The supplier's text calls every version plain, which the prints clearly are not, so look at the photo of the variant you choose and ask us if in doubt.
Who it's for
For you if you love short summer dresses and hate holding the hem down on a bike or in the wind. A playsuit gives you the look and takes away the worry.
One size covers a wide range because the top is elastic, 58 to 128 cm at the chest in the beige version. Strapless does ask for a top that stays up, and the smocking is what holds it.

Fabric and feel: 100% cotton
The composition is 100% cotton, which the maker calls soft. On the plain colours the photos show a crinkled surface, the kind of cotton that is meant to look a little rumpled and does not need pressing.
Pure cotton in a pale beige can be slightly sheer in strong light. The shorts underneath help.
Fit and silhouette: elastic on top, loose below
The beige version is 65 cm long, with a chest of 58-128 cm and a waist of 56-122 cm. The two prints are 68 cm long, with 66-134 cm and 58-124 cm. Hips are 110 cm in all three.
Length is measured from the top edge, so on a strapless piece 65 cm is short. Getting in and out means pulling the whole thing down, as with every playsuit. Plan for that in a festival toilet.

Styling: sandals and not much else
The beige one is a blank page: tan sandals, a woven bag, gold-tone hoops. The leopard prints are loud enough on their own, so keep shoes and bag plain.
An open white shirt over the top covers your shoulders at lunch. In the evening, swap flat sandals for wedges.
Occasions
The maker says warmer days and everyday outfits. We say beach bars, festivals, city trips in the south and any day on a bike in a heatwave.
Care: follow the label
The maker's data has no care instructions, so follow the sewn-in label. Wash the prints inside out. Hot water and a hot dryer can shrink cotton and wear out the elastic in smocking.
The wow detail: the hidden shorts
Two ruffles hang over the legs and hide them completely when you stand still. Nobody knows it is a playsuit until you sit cross-legged on the grass or get on your bike. It is a dress for people who do not sit like they are wearing a dress.
