A plaid skort: pleated skirt in front, shorts behind
This plaid skort from Italy Moda looks like a pleated mini skirt when you face it. Walk past and it turns out to be a pair of wide shorts with a skirt panel across the front. You get the look of the skirt and you can still run for a tram.
It is one size, 39 cm long, with elastic at the back of the waist and a narrow belt that comes with it. The fabric is 90% polyester and 10% viscose.

The piece: three checks you can order
Three versions are still produced: model 221571, a red plaid; model 221574, a red glen check that our button calls "red 2"; and model 221576, a navy blue glen check that our button calls "Taupe". In the photos the reds are a deep burgundy and the navy is mixed with grey and a little beige.
The maker describes a pleated skirt insert at the front, wide legs and a high waist. There are no pockets and no zip or buttons. You pull it on.
Who it's for
For you if you like short pleated skirts and do not like thinking about wind, stairs or bicycles. That is the whole case for a skort, and it is a good one.
One size will not suit everyone. The waist stretches from 74 to 104 cm and the hips measure 104 cm, so check those numbers against your own before you order.

Fabric and feel: a woven check with some body
The composition is 90% polyester and 10% viscose. The maker calls the fabric pleasant to the touch. In the close-up photos it looks like a woven check with a slightly brushed surface, and it holds the pleats in clean folds.
The maker gives no fabric weight and does not mention a lining. From the pictures it looks like an autumn and winter fabric that asks for tights.
Fit and silhouette: one size, high on the waist
There is one size. The table gives a length of 39 cm, hips of 104 cm and a waist that runs from 74 cm at rest to 104 cm stretched. With hips of 104 cm the cut is roomy, which is what lets the legs flare.
The belt sits on the waistband and helps if the elastic is loose on you. On the model the hem lands at the upper thigh. If you are tall, expect it shorter.

Styling: ribbed knit and tall boots
The photos show the formula: a fitted ribbed top tucked in, and pointed pumps or tall black boots. It is a little bit school uniform and it works on adults.
For colder days, add black opaque tights and a long coat that falls past the hem. The red plaid is the loudest of the three. The navy glen check is the quiet one and will get the most wear at work.
Occasions
The maker suggests everyday looks and work. We would say: lectures, an office without a strict dress code, a Saturday in town, a family lunch in December. It is short, so judge your own workplace.
Care: follow the label
The maker's data has no care instructions, so follow the label sewn into the skort. Take the belt off before washing. Pleats in general keep their edge longer when you hang the garment to dry by the waistband.
The wow detail: the trick itself
The skirt panel only covers the front. It is stitched on like an apron over the shorts, pleated, and cut to the same length, so from the front you cannot see where one ends and the other begins. The small belt with its gold-tone buckle finishes the picture.
