This waistcoat and trouser set by Makadamia is a suit for people who don't want sleeves. The waistcoat has a lapel collar, wide shoulders and a belt you tie yourself. The trousers are loose and wide, all the way down.

It comes in one size, in 85% viscose with 15% nylon, and the maker states it is made in Italy. The colour you can order is beige, a pale cream in the photos.

Makadamia sells its clothes through a fashion wholesaler in Poland. The maker describes the set as a waistcoat with a belt and loose, wide-leg trousers, and adds a useful warning: the top you see under the waistcoat is styling and is not included.

The gallery shows five colours. Only beige is still supplied, which is the cream set in the fourth to sixth photo. Taupe, red, dark brown and black have gone, and their photos remain so you can see the cut from more angles.

Who it's for

For you if you want to look dressed for the office or a celebration and feel as if you are wearing pyjamas. Viscose hangs softly, the trousers have room, and the belt lets you decide how fitted the top half is.

There is one size. The maker lists a chest of 104 cm and hips of 108 cm. It will sit loose on a small frame and closer on a larger one.

Fabric and feel: mostly viscose

The composition is 85% viscose and 15% nylon. Viscose is made from cellulose and is known for a cool, fluid hand. The nylon adds strength to the yarn.

In the photos the fabric is matte with a fine crinkle. That texture is practical, because creases from sitting get lost in it. The trousers move as the model walks, which tells you the cloth is light.

Fit and silhouette: long lines, tied middle

The maker's table has one row. Chest 104 cm, hips 108 cm, and two lengths, 66 and 104 cm. We read those as the waistcoat and the trousers, since a 66 cm waistcoat ends at the hip as in the photos and 104 cm is a full trouser length.

The waist cell reads 108/64-92 cm. Our reading: 108 cm for the waistcoat before you tie it, and 64-92 cm for a trouser waistband that stretches. The table does not confirm that, so take it as our interpretation. At 104 cm the trousers are long. On the model they reach the floor in trainers, and if you are shorter you may want a heel or a hem.

Styling: what goes under the waistcoat

Because the top is not included, you choose. The photos use a white top and white trainers, which keeps the cream set fresh and casual. A fine black roll-neck underneath makes it an autumn outfit. Nothing at all under it, with the belt tied firmly, turns it into an evening look.

The maker says the set works with classic accessories and with casual pieces. Gold-tone jewellery and tan sandals are an easy start.

Occasions

The maker names everyday wear and more formal occasions. We see it at a graduation, a summer wedding as a guest, a presentation at work or a dinner on holiday. In cream it is a daytime colour first.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the labels sewn into both pieces. Viscose is weaker when wet and can shrink in heat, so it usually asks for a cool, gentle wash and drying on a hanger. Check the label before the first wash.

The wow detail: the shoulders

The waistcoat's shoulders are cut wide enough to fall over the top of the arm, like a small cap sleeve. With the waist tied in below, that width gives the set its shape: broad at the top, narrow in the middle, long and loose from there down.
