You will also see a brown and a black set in the gallery. Those colours are no longer available at the wholesaler, so we deliver the ecru one only. The supplier calls this colour beige and our colour button says White. Ecru is the fairest word for what the photos show.

For you if you want to get dressed in one move on a hot morning. Top and bottom match, so the thinking is done.

The set comes in a single size. With a chest of 100 cm and a waist and hips of 98 cm in the table, it is cut roomy for an S or an M. If you usually wear L or larger, this set will be too small, and we would rather you knew that now.

The maker describes the fabric as smooth. In the photos it has a light crinkle, the kind you often see in linen blends. We mention both so you are not surprised.

Fabric and feel: half linen, half viscose

The composition is 50% linen and 50% viscose. The maker calls the blend breathable and says it keeps you comfortable on warmer days. Linen is known for a dry, cool hand, and viscose makes a cloth softer and lets it hang more loosely. Half and half is a sensible middle.

Linen creases. With this much of it in the mix the set will crease too, and the light crinkle in the fabric means it never needs to look pressed. In ecru, thin fabrics can show what is underneath, so skin-tone underwear is the safe choice.

Fit and silhouette: boxy on top, wide below

The table has one row. For S/M it gives a length of 44 cm for the shirt and 108 cm for the trousers, a chest of 100 cm, and 98 cm for both waist and hips.

A shirt of 44 cm is short. On the model it meets the high waistband of the trousers and shows a little skin when she lifts her arms. The trousers are long: 108 cm reaches the floor on many women, and on the model the hem covers part of the sandal. The waist tie lets you pull the waistband in, so the 98 cm in the table is the widest setting and you tighten from there.

Styling: together first, apart later

In the photos the ecru set is worn with flat white sandals and nothing else, and that is how it looks most at ease. Add a woven bag and sunglasses and you are dressed for a terrace.

The two pieces also work apart. Wear the shirt open over a vest top with jeans, and wear the trousers with a fitted black top when the evening cools down. Tan sandals warm up the ecru, and white trainers make it more casual.

Occasions

The maker suggests a walk, shopping or a casual day at work. We would add holidays: a matching set rolls up small and saves you a decision every morning.

It is a summer set. In autumn the short shirt and a linen blend will feel thin, so think of it as something for the warm half of the year.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data we receive has no care instructions, so please go by the labels sewn into the shirt and the trousers. We would rather say that than guess.

In general, linen and viscose both dislike hot water and a hot dryer, and both can shrink. Wash the two pieces together so they keep the same shade, and dry them on a hanger.

The wow detail: the cord at the waist

The tie is a thick, twisted cream cord with a knot at each end, and it hangs down in front. On a plain set it is the one decorative thing, and it has a job as well: it sets the waist. It gives the outfit a slightly nautical look without a single stripe.
