A decorative cushion that catches the light

This is a decorative cushion with a woven pattern and a metallic sheen. It comes with its insert, in three sizes: 45 x 45 cm, 50 x 50 cm, or a 30 x 50 cm lumbar shape.

There are three designs: dark brown-black with a gold hexagon pattern, deep green with fine gold threads, and pale silver with a shell pattern. Each one has a thin gold-beige piped edge.

The piece: three designs, one mood

The supplier calls them Black and Gold Vintage, Gold and Green Starry Sky, and Silver and White Shell. In the photos the gold and silver threads sit in the weave, so the shine changes as you walk past. They are made to go together: the room shot shows them side by side on a light sofa.

The supplier sells it as a back pillow for the bed. To be clear about what it is: a decorative cushion that you can lean against, not a shaped reading or back-support pillow. We sell it as "No brand"; the supplier gives no maker.

Who it's for

For you if your sofa or bed looks a bit flat and you want one change that makes the room feel finished. The dark and green designs warm up a grey or beige sofa. The silver one is quieter and suits a white bedroom.

Materials and finish: woven sheen, synthetic fill

The supplier describes the cover as a blend with a soft finish, but gives no fibre content, so we can't say what it is made of. In the photos it has a woven surface with metallic threads that pick up the light.

The insert is filled with what the supplier calls PP cotton. Despite the name, that is a synthetic fibre fill, not cotton. The supplier says it keeps its shape.

Size: which one for where

45 x 45 cm is the usual sofa size and works on most seats. 50 x 50 cm is fuller and suits a deep sofa or the back row on a bed, where it also gives you something to lean on while you read. 30 x 50 cm is the long, low lumbar shape that goes in front of the square ones.

The supplier mentions custom sizes. If you need one, ask us before ordering.

Styling: odd numbers, one shine

Three cushions look relaxed, two look formal. Try two 50 x 50 cm cushions in green with one silver lumbar in front on a grey sofa. On a bed with white bedding, the dark gold design against the headboard looks rich without being heavy.

Repeat the gold somewhere else in the room, a gold-coloured lamp or a gold picture frame, and the cushions look chosen, not added.

A quick update for the living room before the holidays, a guest bed, a new home, or a housewarming gift for someone who likes a bit of shine.

Care: gently does it

The supplier gives no care instructions and no closure type, so check the label on the cover when it arrives. As a general habit for woven covers with metallic thread: spot clean marks with a damp cloth, keep heat away from the shiny side, and plump the insert now and then to keep it full.

The wow detail: the green one

If we had to pick one, it would be the deep green. The fine gold threads run across it like scratches of light, and in an evening lamp it looks like dark cloth brushed with gold. It is the one people will touch.
