This long evening dress by Bicotone is built from three ideas: a draped neckline, short sleeves that sit off the shoulder, and a slit that opens high on one leg. The fabric is soft and shiny and shimmers when you move, in the supplier's words.

It is 150 cm long in size 34 and 157 cm in size 48, and it reaches the floor on the model. The dress is lined and closes with a hidden zip.

Bicotone sells this dress through a Polish fashion wholesaler, in the evening dresses category. The supplier describes a fitted top that emphasizes the waist and a long, flowing skirt. Each colour has its own model number; the cut and the size table are shared.

The colour names differ a little between the supplier and what you see. In the photos there is a light blue, an ivory white that the supplier calls beige, a fuchsia that the supplier calls violet, a strong cobalt blue and a bottle green. Our second blue button, "blue 2", is the cobalt.

Who it's for

For you if you have a gala, a prom or a wedding ahead and want a floor-length dress that still lets you walk and dance. The slit is there for exactly that.

The size range is wide for an evening dress, from 34 to 48. It shows the shoulders and the collarbones, so it suits you if you are happy to have those on view, and a strapless bra is the practical choice with the thin straps.

Fabric and feel: a shiny weave with 7% elastane

The outer fabric is 93% polyester and 7% elastane. The lining is 70% polyester and 30% viscose. The supplier calls the material soft and shiny and says it shimmers with every step.

The photos back that up. The light runs along the folds of the skirt, strongest on the fuchsia and the cobalt. The elastane gives the fitted top some give, which helps when you sit through a dinner. With a lining underneath, the light colours have a second layer behind them.

Fit and silhouette: fitted to the waist, then long

The size table has eight sizes. Size 34 has a chest of 80 cm and a waist of 64 cm; each size adds four centimetres to both, up to a chest of 108 cm in size 48, where the waist is 96 cm. Length goes up one centimetre per size, from 150 to 157 cm.

Choose by your waist and chest, because the top is the fitted part. Then check the length against your own height with the shoes you plan to wear. At 150 cm and more this is a long dress. If you are under about average height, plan for heels or a visit to a tailor.

Styling: keep the neck bare

In the photos the model wears heeled sandals and very little jewellery: small earrings and a thin chain or none. That is the right call. The draped neckline and the sleeves already frame the shoulders.

Wear your hair up if you want the neckline to show from the back as well. A small clutch and a wrap for the walk outside finish it. With the slit, your shoes will be seen, so choose a pair you like looking at.

Occasions

The supplier names special occasions. Think of a gala, a prom, a formal wedding or a New Year's Eve party. The white version reads as bridal, so wear it to your own wedding and not to someone else's.

The cobalt, the fuchsia and the green are strong colours for a wedding guest or a company gala. The light blue is the soft option.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so follow the label sewn into the dress.

For long lined dresses in shiny fabric in general: hang the dress as soon as it arrives so the folds from the parcel drop out, and steam it from the inside if the label allows.

The wow detail: straps and sleeves together

Off-shoulder dresses often slide down. This one avoids that with a simple idea: thin straps carry the dress, and the draped sleeves hang below them as decoration. You get the bare-shoulder look, and you can still raise your arms on the dance floor.
