Jujube Wood Bowl with Foot Ring, 9 Sizes from 10 to 16 cm
For those who appreciate handcrafted tableware with visible grain.
Description
A round wooden bowl with a small foot, in nine sizes
This is a round wooden bowl sold as jujube wood, with a small foot ring and a grain you can see all the way around. It is the kind of bowl you use every day for soup, rice, yoghurt or fruit.
You pick one of nine sizes. The smallest is 10 cm wide and holds about 240 ml; the largest is 16 cm wide and holds about 700 ml, according to the supplier's measurement photos. Each order line is one bowl.

The piece: a plain bowl that lets the wood do the work
The shape is simple: rounded sides, a slightly wider rim and a low foot ring underneath, much like the rice and soup bowls you see in Japanese kitchens. In the photos the wood is a warm reddish brown with a glossy surface, and every bowl shows its own rings and stripes.
We sell it without a brand. The product came to us as a Japanese jujube wood bowl; the wood type is printed on the supplier's own measurement photos, but the supplier does not say where it is made, so we call the style Japanese and leave it there.
Who it's for
For you if you like your table a bit warmer than plain white dishes allow, or if you are slowly replacing mismatched bowls with something you actually like to look at. The small sizes suit dips, nuts and sauces; the larger ones take a full bowl of soup or a salad for one.
It is also a quiet, useful gift for someone who cooks. Two bowls in different sizes make a nice pair.

Material and finish: what we know and what we don't
The wood is jujube, going by the product name and the labels on the supplier's photos. That is all the supplier tells us. There is no information about the finish, and the glossy look in the photos suggests some kind of coating, but we do not know what it is. There is also no food-contact statement.
We would rather tell you that than guess. If you want to know more before you order, ask us and we will put the question to the supplier.
Size: which bowl for which job
The five smaller bowls are all 6.7 cm high and range from 10 to 11.9 cm wide, holding about 240 to 360 ml. That is a rice bowl, a miso soup bowl or a dessert bowl. The four larger ones are 8 cm high and 13 to 16 cm wide, holding about 410 to 700 ml, enough for noodle soup, a salad or a bowl of fruit on the table.
The capacities are the supplier's approximate figures, measured to the rim. In daily use you will fill them a little less.

Styling: wood with grey and red
The supplier styled them on grey cloth with cherry tomatoes and small oranges, and the red and orange really glow against the brown. Try them on a dark table with a grey napkin, or mix sizes on a tray with a woven basket. A single 16 cm bowl of clementines on the kitchen counter already changes the room in December.
Occasions
Use the small ones for a breakfast of yoghurt and fruit, or for dips on a borrel board with friends. The large ones work for soup nights in winter and a shared salad at a summer lunch. As a housewarming gift, two bowls in a small and a large size say more than a bottle of wine.
Care: by hand and dry
The supplier gives no care instructions. As general practice for wooden bowls, wash by hand in lukewarm water with a little mild soap, dry with a towel right away and let them air dry before you stack them. Keep them out of the dishwasher and the microwave, and do not leave them to soak.
The wow detail: no two bowls look alike
Look at the measurement photos side by side. Every bowl has a different pattern of rings, from tight stripes to wide circles in the base. When you buy two of the same size, you still get two different bowls, and we think that is the charm of wood.
