The wholesaler files model 222520 under the brand Step in Style. Its description calls them ankle boots by Jezzi. We pass on both names, because both are in the supplier's data and we can't tell you more about how they relate.

The supplier's colour is beige. In the photos the shade is cooler and greyer than a sand beige, which is why an earlier title on this page said taupe. Black piping follows the top edge and the scalloped seam, and the heel is covered in the same colour as the upper.

Who they're for

For you if you want a heeled ankle boot for the cold months that is not black or brown. The neutral shade goes with most of a winter wardrobe.

The heel is 8 cm. The column shape is easier to walk on than a thin heel, but it is still a high heel, so be honest with yourself about how long you stand in a day.

For lining and footbed the supplier's data says "shoe cover", which we can't interpret. So we know the maker calls the inside insulated, but not what the lining is made of.

Materials and build: leather, says the maker

The supplier states leather in the material field and again in the description. We have no certificate, so we repeat it as the maker's statement. In the photos the surface is smooth and matte with a very fine grain.

The maker says the inside is insulated and meant for autumn and winter. How warm that is in practice we can't measure from here.

Size and dimensions: insole length per size

The maker's table runs in even half-centimetre steps: 24 cm in size 36, 24.5 cm in 37, 25 cm in 38, 25.5 cm in 39 and 26 cm in 40.

Sizes differ from one maker to the next, so measure your foot instead of assuming your usual number. An insulated boot also takes up some room inside. With a shaft of 10 cm the boot ends at the ankle; on the model there is a strip of skin between boot and trouser hem.

Styling: brown, cream and jeans blue

The photos pair them with cropped brown trousers, and the two colours sit well together. Cream knitwear and camel coats belong to the same family.

Blue jeans with a turned-up hem are the casual version. With black tights and a black skirt, the boots become the lightest thing in the outfit, which makes the wavy seam stand out.

The maker calls them practical for everyday use on cooler days. We see them at the office, at a lunch, at a Christmas market with warm socks. A light shade asks for some care on wet, muddy days.

Care: treat them as leather

The maker gives no care instructions. For smooth leather in general: brush off dry dirt, wipe with a slightly damp cloth and use a colourless cream now and then. On a light colour, test any product on a hidden spot first, and treat the boots with a protective spray before the first wet day if the product label says it suits smooth leather.

The wow detail: a seam that waves

Most ankle boots have a straight seam at the side. This one curves in and out a few times on its way down, outlined in black. It reads a little like the edge of a petal, and it is the reason these boots are remembered.
