The maker's data does not mention a lining. The front photo shows a pale band at the waist that we cannot explain from the data, so we leave it at that.

Fabric and feel: 60% cotton under a layer of tulle

The maker gives one composition for the dress: 60% cotton, 35% polyester and 5% spandex. It does not split that per layer. For a tulle dress the cotton share is high, which suggests the opaque layer underneath carries most of it. That is our reading, not a supplier statement.

In the photos the tulle is fine and matte. It lies smooth over the bodice and gathers into soft volume on the skirt, where the light shows the two layers.

Fit and silhouette: fitted top, short flared skirt

The bodice is fitted and the skirt flares from the waist. The table below comes from the maker. Size 36 has a chest of 84 cm and a waist of 70 cm; size 40 has 92 and 78 cm. The length is 89 cm in 34 and 36, and 90 cm in 38 and 40.

The back is the better side of this dress, with its two bows. Wear your hair up or to one side so the small bow at the neck is not lost.

Silver-tone jewellery sits well with dark grey. Strappy heels keep the leg long under a short skirt, and white sneakers turn the dress into something for a summer evening in town. Bring a short jacket; a long one will cover the bow.
