This kids' graphic T-shirt spells WILD LIFE across the chest, and every letter is an animal. There is a lion, a bear, a flamingo and an elephant in there, so your child has something to point at and name.

The print sits on the front only. The letters are white blocks with a coloured animal drawn inside each one. On the inside of the neck seam the photos show a light blue tape, a small detail that covers the seam where it touches the neck.

Fabric and feel: plain cotton jersey

The shirt is 100% cotton. The close-up shows a fine jersey knit, the ordinary T-shirt fabric. The supplier says nothing about stretch or fabric weight, and gives no information about the print technique, so we leave those out.

Fit and sizing: measure a shirt that fits

The sizes are named by age, 3Y to 8Y, but children differ. Size 5Y is 43.9 cm long with a chest of 66 cm; size 8Y is 50 cm long with a chest of 75.9 cm. Measure a T-shirt your child wears now and pick the size that comes closest, or one up if a growth spurt is on the way.

Styling: let the print do the talking

With a print this busy the rest can be plain: jeans, a jean skirt, leggings or shorts. The light blue inside the neck comes back in the elephant, so blue bottoms tie in well. A cardigan or hoodie on top still leaves the animals visible when it is left open.

Care: cold wash, inside out

The supplier says machine wash cold and tumble dry low. Our own advice for printed shirts is to turn them inside out before washing, so the print rubs less against the drum.

The print is a little game. Which animal is the W? Where is the octopus? Children who are learning their letters get eight of them here, each with its own animal, and that makes getting dressed a bit more fun.
