Personal Alarm Keychain, 130 dB, with Pull Pin and Small Light

A personal alarm you pull, and everyone hears

This is a small personal alarm on a keyring. Pull the pin and it sounds at 130 dB, according to the supplier, which is loud enough to make people look up. It weighs 0.05 kg, so you forget it is on your keys until you need it.

It also has a small light with a constant and a strobe mode. You choose from five colours: pink, white, blue, black and purple.

At a glance

The piece: a keyring with a loud voice

The body is an oblong with rounded ends. At the top sits a round button for the light, below it a small lens, and lower down a dotted grille where the sound comes out. A split ring and a swivel link hold it on your keys or a bag strap.

The supplier describes a simple pull-pin activation: you pull, it sounds. There is no brand on it and none in the supplier data, so we sell it as "No brand".

Who it's for

For anyone who walks or cycles home alone after dark and wants a way to draw attention fast. The supplier also photographs it on a child's school backpack, and for a teenager who walks to sport training it is a small, easy thing to carry.

It is a sound and a light. It does not call anyone, track a location or contact emergency services, so think of it as a way to be heard nearby.

Materials and power: the gaps

The supplier does not name the material of the body, and it gives no battery type and no charging information. We would rather say that plainly than guess. Before you rely on it, test it once at home, so you know the sound and how the pin feels in your hand.

If you want the battery details before you order, ask us and we will check with the supplier.

Size: pocket-sized

The supplier gives no measurements, only the weight of 0.05 kg and the note that it fits in a pocket, purse or backpack. In the photos it is about the length of a car key fob with the ring attached.

Where to clip it

Clip it where your hand already goes: on your house keys, on the shoulder strap of your bag, or on the zip of a backpack. Deep inside a bag it is too slow to find. The colours make it easy to tell whose is whose in a family.

Good moments to give one

When someone starts university and moves to a new city, when a child starts walking to school alone, or as a small Sinterklaas gift. The light alone is handy for finding a keyhole in the dark.

Care: test it now and then

The supplier gives no care or battery instructions. Keep it dry, wipe it with a dry cloth, and test the sound and the light every few weeks so you know it still works.

The wow detail: one movement

There is no screen and no app. You pull, and it sounds. In a moment when you don't want to think, that single movement is the whole point.

A choice that gives back
