Affordable Luxury Fashion Online: Wear Well, Spend Smart
This guide explains what affordable luxury actually means, and how to shop for pieces that work for you.
What affordable luxury means for your wardrobe
Affordable luxury is not about cheap copies of designer items. It is about pieces that feel good when you put them on, hold their shape through regular wear and washing, go with at least three other things you already own, and do not cost so much you feel guilty wearing them on an ordinary Tuesday.
You do not buy these pieces for the label inside. You buy them because you will reach for them again and again. When you calculate cost per wear, a €80 blouse worn 80 times works out at €1 per wear. That is better value than a €15 top you wear twice. This simple logic works for every single item you add to your wardrobe.
Start with your base layers first
Do not start shopping for luxury looks with statement bags or special occasion shoes. Start with the things you wear every single day: plain tops, well fitted trousers, soft knit layers, good socks. These are the pieces that make every outfit feel put together. When these fit well and feel nice against your skin, you will feel comfortable all day. You do not need a visible logo for this.
You can browse Everyday Clothing for plain, well cut base pieces that work under blazers, cardigans or jackets. Take the time to check measurements. Where the maker gives it, the product page shows fabric weight, stretch and fit notes. Always check the Size guide first.
Test pieces before you commit
You do not have to guess how something will look when it arrives. Use the Avatar Studio to try a piece on your saved avatar first. You can see how the length sits, how the neckline falls, how it pairs with trousers you already have saved.
If you are not sure about a colour, you can overlay it against photos of coats or shoes you already own. You can also save combinations to the Mix & Match Studio and come back to them later. This stops you buying things that look good on a model but will never work for your body shape or existing wardrobe.
Build pieces that work everywhere
Affordable luxury means you can wear one piece for multiple occasions. A good tailored blazer works for a work meeting, a dinner, or running errands when worn open over a t-shirt. A simple midi dress works with trainers, boots or heels. You do not need separate wardrobes for different parts of your life.
Browse Tailored Blazers and Timeless Dresses for pieces that cross over easily. When you are looking at a new item, stop and list three different outfits you could make with things you already own. If you can not list three, do not buy it. That one rule will save you more money than any sale.
Take care of what you already own
Luxury is not just about buying nice things. It is about keeping them nice for years. Most clothes do not wear out fast because they were badly made. They wear out fast because people wash them wrong, store them badly, and never do small repairs.
Learn how to replace a button, fix a loose hem, and wash each fabric correctly. Follow the care label inside every item. We have a full guide for this: Fabric care guide. When you look after pieces properly, a good sweater can last ten years or longer. That is how you get real value from every purchase.
Shop slowly and intentionally
You do not need to refresh your wardrobe every season. You can add one or two good pieces each quarter, and build a wardrobe slowly over time. This lets you save up for the things you actually want, instead of buying impulse items you will not want next month.
When you see something you like, save it to your Virtual Closet. Leave it there for 72 hours. If you still want it after that time, and you can list three outfits for it, then you can buy it. Most impulse urges pass in that time. This habit also means you will never end up with a wardrobe full of things you never wear.
5% of each sale goes to a cause you choose.
How giving works when you shop with us
5% of each sale goes to a cause you choose. After your order you pick one of three causes: CARE International, Cool Earth or Project Zero. The donation is paid out through PayPal Giving Fund UK. Those three causes, together with how we run our own store (honest product data, fair prices), are matched to 11 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
That is the heart of the 1% Movement: small choices × millions of us = change. It is a giving promise we can show you, and it is the only promise we make on this page.
Questions people ask
Can I try clothes on before ordering?
You can try a piece on your custom avatar using the Avatar Studio tool on the product page. This shows fit, length and how it pairs with items you already own. If you are still unsure once you receive your order, you can find full terms at the returns page.
How do I work out cost per wear?
Divide the price of the item by the number of times you expect to wear it. For example, a €60 coat worn 60 times costs €1 per wear. This is a simple way to compare value between different items when shopping.
Should I buy items on sale?
You can buy items on sale if it is something you already planned to get. Do not buy something just because the price is reduced. All current reduced pieces are listed in the sale collection.
How do I check correct sizing?
Use the size calculator linked on the product page. Compare your own measurements against the measurements listed for each item. Do not rely only on standard size labels.
