What to wear to ADE 2026: five nights in Amsterdam in October

What to wear to ADE 2026: flat boots, thin layers, a coat you can hand in and a small bag. ADE runs from Wednesday 21 to Sunday 25 October 2026 in Amsterdam, where late October is about 13 °C (56 °F) by day and 7 °C (45 °F) at night, with rain on more than half of the days. Whether you live here or fly in for the week, this is how to dress for a night that starts in a queue outside and ends on the way home at six in the morning.

DatesWednesday 21 to Sunday 25 October 2026, the 30th edition. Tickets are sold per event, so most visitors move between several places.
WeatherNormal for 21 to 31 October: 13.3 °C (56 °F) by day, 7.2 °C (45 °F) at night. October has some rain on about 17 days. This is the long-term average, not a forecast.
HoursMany night events run from about 23:00 to 06:00. The clock goes back one hour at 03:00 on Sunday 25 October.
BagsLarge halls such as Ziggo Dome and AFAS Live allow bags up to A4 size and about 10 cm thick. No backpacks. Check the page of your own venue.

Start with your feet

You will stand and dance for hours, often on a concrete floor, and you will walk or cycle between places in the dark. So choose the shoes first and build the rest around them. A flat, closed boot with a thick sole keeps your feet dry in the queue and steady on a wet bridge. Wear them at home for a few evenings before the week starts, so they are no longer new on the first night.

Layers you can hand in

Outside it is 7 °C at four in the morning. Inside, a full room is warm. One thick jumper does not solve both. Three thin layers do: a fitted long-sleeve top you can dance in, a jacket or overshirt for the queue, and a coat you hand in at the cloakroom. Most clubs and halls have a cloakroom or lockers. Keep your phone, card and ticket on you, never in the coat.

A ribbed turtleneck under a short jacket covers the neck without a scarf to lose. If you prefer a dress or a skirt, add tights and keep the same rule: the warm layer comes off, the dancing layer stays.

A bag that gets through the door

The large concert halls publish their bag rule, and it is the same idea at most doors: a small bag, close to the body. At Ziggo Dome and AFAS Live that means no larger than A4 and about 10 cm thick. A crossbody bag or belt bag leaves both hands free and stays in front of you in a crowd. Read the page of your own venue before you leave; rules differ and they are applied at the door.

Rain without an umbrella

An umbrella is a nuisance in a queue and on a bicycle. A long coat with a collar you can turn up does more, and it covers your legs when you cycle. Dark trousers and boots you can wipe clean forgive a wet street. Bring a spare pair of socks in your bag. It sounds small. At five in the morning it is not.

Flying in? What to pack for ADE

Visitors come to ADE from more than 150 countries, and many travel with hand luggage only. One small bag is enough when every piece works with every other piece. Keep to two dark colours and one that is yours.

  • The boots. Wear them when you travel; they are the heaviest thing you bring.
  • Two pairs of dark trousers, or one pair and a skirt with tights.
  • A thin top for each night. They weigh little and they are what people see.
  • One jacket or overshirt for the queue.
  • One long coat with a collar.
  • A small crossbody bag, no larger than A4.
  • Spare socks, and earplugs for the long nights.

New in the Netherlands? The same list works for a Dutch autumn on a bicycle: layers, a long coat, and shoes that do not mind rain.

One outfit, three kinds of place

Club. Warm and close. The thin top and trousers do the work; the jacket goes to the cloakroom with the coat.

Warehouse or hall. Large, with a hard floor and cooler corners. Keep the jacket with you, tied at the waist when you dance. At the end of September the programme listed more than fifty warehouse events, and a few that are partly outdoors.

Concert hall, church or museum. The arts and culture programme has seated concerts and exhibitions by day. The same trousers and boots work; swap the top for a shirt or a fine knit.

Pieces to try in the Dressing Room

Real pieces you can order now. Open one and try it on your avatar in the Magic Mirror before you decide. Your size and today's price are on the product page.

If you order for a date

ADE starts on 21 October. We deliver in the Netherlands, across the European Union and to a number of countries beyond it; the list is at checkout. Delivery time differs per product and per country, and it is stated on each product page and at checkout. Check it before you order when you need a piece for a certain night. If you travel in, order to your home address before you leave. If a piece does not fit, our returns page explains what to do, and the size guide helps you choose before you order.

See it on you first. It is free.
Make your avatar once, then open the Magic Mirror on any product page and try the piece on. Build the whole look in the Mix & Match Studio, or ask Lucy, our AI stylist, in the chat on any page. It is more fun with friends: send them your look and let them answer with theirs.

Create your own. Be the artist.
This is the 30th edition of ADE, and the organiser expects more than 3,300 artists, from small club nights to large halls. Design your own T-shirt or hoodie in the AI Creative Studio, alone or together with your friends, and make it a week to remember. Use your own words and your own art: no event logos, no artist names or photos. We can't wait to see your design.

Questions people ask

When is ADE 2026?

From Wednesday 21 October to Sunday 25 October 2026 in Amsterdam. It is the 30th edition. The organiser publishes the programme on its own site.

What is the weather like in Amsterdam during ADE?

The long-term average for 21 to 31 October is 13.3 °C by day and 7.2 °C at night, and October has some rain on about 17 days. These are averages from the Dutch weather institute KNMI for 1991 to 2020. A forecast for the week itself is only useful from about a week before.

Can I bring a backpack?

Not to the large concert halls. Ziggo Dome and AFAS Live allow bags up to A4 size and about 10 cm thick, and both have lockers. Other places set their own rule, so read the page of your venue.

What should I pack for ADE if I fly in with hand luggage?

Boots on your feet, two pairs of dark trousers, a thin top for each night, one jacket, one long coat, a small crossbody bag, spare socks and earplugs. Keep to two dark colours so every piece goes with every other piece.

Is a plain top and black trousers enough for a club night?

Yes. In a warm, full room a fitted plain top and dark trousers are what most people wear. The shoes and the fit do more than decoration. Add one piece that is yours: a colour, a jacket, or a T-shirt you designed yourself.

Does the clock change during ADE?

Yes. In the night from Saturday 24 to Sunday 25 October 2026 the clock goes back one hour at 03:00. Plan your way home with that in mind.

How do people get from one place to the next?

By tram, metro, bus, ferry and bicycle. The events are spread over the whole city, and the ferries to Amsterdam Noord carry bicycles.
