Two flat wooden outlines give it the shape of a vase or a bottle, pieces of branch fill the space between them, and a clear glass tube stands in the middle. The tube holds the water, for a cutting or a few flowers.

There are seven shapes. A, B and C are about 18 cm high. D, E, F and H are about 27 cm high. In the photos the wood is pale, and the branches look as they grew, with knots and small side shoots cut short.

Because real branches are used, no two vases are the same. Yours will have the outline you ordered, but the branches inside will run differently from the ones in the photos.

Size and shapes: three small, four tall

The small shapes are about 18 cm high, 10 cm wide and 7 cm deep. A has a flared neck, B is a teardrop and C is a gourd.

The tall shapes are about 27 cm high. D is a slim bottle, 13 cm wide and 10 cm deep. E is a curved vase shape, 15 by 12 cm. F is a wide bottle, 17 by 13 cm. H is a tall teardrop, 15 by 11 cm. All figures come from the supplier's measured drawings, which you can see in the gallery.

Styling: one stem, one leaf

The supplier's photos show spider plant offsets and pothos cuttings, set on a dark wooden table against a white wall. Green against pale wood is the whole idea, and it works. A single tulip or a dried grass stem would do the same job in another season.

A small shape next to a tall one makes a nice pair on a shelf.

Occasions

Give it with a cutting from your own plant as a housewarming present. Or put one on your desk at the start of spring, when the first cuttings are ready for water.

Care: water in the tube, not on the wood

The supplier gives no care instructions and does not say whether the tube lifts out. As general practice: pour water into the glass tube only, wipe spills off the wood straight away, and dust the frame with a dry cloth or a soft brush. Change the water regularly so the tube stays clear.

The wow detail: a vase drawn in branches

The shape is a trick of the eye. There is no wall and no belly, only an outline and some branches, and still you see a vase. The roots of a cutting in the glass tube add one more layer of lines to look at.

A home that gives back

5% of each sale goes to a cause you choose.
